Sigmund Freud’s Concept of Dreams
According to Sigmund Freud who was
the father of Psychoanalysis Dreams are Royal Road to the unconscious. Through
dreams, we can assess the underlying information which may be problematic for the individual.
Some of the repressed material
comes through a dream to awareness. Sometimes it happens that clients visiting the
psychologist do not want to share private information because of
confidentiality issues. So in this case psychologist should ask about the
dreams which the client has during sleeping.
For example, I have a female client
diagnosed with schizophrenia. She was
the victim of child abuse. But she does
not want to share and has a paranoid personality. So I ask her to tell me about the dream which she recently has. She told that while sleeping I saw a man with a weird face
attack me, and was trying to strangle me. I started screaming for
release……………….hence the clue here is that A client is scared of the opposite gender
“male”, they seem to her wired. The second question is that what type of attack,….
After that, a careful probing about dreams can lead the psychologist to the root cause of the problem.
